Snacks at Restaurant 22 Cambridge

It is no secret that we are HUGE fans of Restaurant 22 Cambridge. We have been visiting (as much as possible!) since its rebirth under the expert ownership of Sam Carter and Alex Olivier and always love all of the food from the beginning to end of the journey. It is such a romantic and truly special setting. We last visited in June 2021 and manage to grab a cancellation for the March 2022 tasting menu which we enjoyed recently. I opted for the full Fish tasting, whilst Jon enjoyed the regular full tasting so you will see the two menus alongside each other.

The Snacks:Restaurant 22 snacks

As always, the Nocellara olives were divine! Here they are with a tasty little Spenwood, pumpkin seed and truffle honey tart.

Trout Restaurant 22

Chalk stream trout with horseradish and dill. Fresh and packed with flavour.

Snacks at Restaurant 22

Followed by a salt baked beetroot tartare with quince and juniper for me on the Pescatarians menu, and a Sandringham venison tartare with quince and juniper for the full menu.

R22 bread

Onto the lightest, tastiest brioche, served with butter and pate (mushroom for me!).

Amuse-Bouche: potato dish

Norfolk peer potato, soured cream, N25 Oscietra caviar- I loved this dish and I think it was actually one of my favourite elements of the entire menu. So comforting.

Starter:tasting menu

On to the starters. For the pescatarian menu, barbequed scallop, Yorkshire rhubarb with XO sauce.

The meat version was belly pork which was extremely well received.

Fish: fish tasting menu

The most beautiful piece of Isle of Gigha halibut with brassicas and seaweed. This dish tasted as perfect and elegant as it looks.

Mains:

main course Restaurant 22My main course was fabulous- Loire valley white asparagus with alliums and winter truffle. Super tasty.

Cambridge restaurants

Equally as fabulous was the chicken dish on the main menu. Rich in flavour and oh, those sauces!

Pre-Dessert:

Blood orange sorbet gave freshness, served with the prettiest macaron.

Dessert:

chocolate dessert

We haven’t actually stopped talking about this dessert since eating it. The flavours and textures were just amazing. Dark chocolate, miso, thyme and buttermilk. Just wow.

Coffee:

We always find a space for coffee and a petit four- Brew Project Coffee (complete with timer to ensure the perfect brew), and a tasty truffle to finish a wonderful meal.

Restaurant 22 Cambridge:

As always, we left happy and wanting to return as soon as we can. Next time I am going to try the vegetarian tasting menu. Thank you as always Restaurant 22- you are wonderful.
