Parker’s tavern:

If you want a touch of decadence and luxury, head to Parkers Tavern. The recently renovated hotel, which overlooks Parkers Piece, is classically decorated and has a very grand feel. There are excellent options for tea here but be sure to include a slice of their legendary Cambridge tart.  The full afternoon tea has a Cambridge theme so brush up on your Cambridge history as you feast on delicious cakes, scones and sandwiches. Harrietts:

The Cambridge Harriett’s tea Room is one of three in the collection. They pride themselves in offering an experience of yesteryear through their prompt, formal service and classic settings. Waitresses wear period uniforms and the tearooms have regular live piano music to really give you a feel of days gone by. Food is made on the premises, many to family recipes, using UK sourced ingredients and a good selection of tea is available.

The Orchard Tea Room:

The Orchard Tea Garden is the perfect choice for a pre or post tea walk from Cambridge due to its beautiful location in the Granchester Meadows. Lay back in the outdoor deckchairs in good weather or take your tea indoors in the Pavilion on chillier days- either way you’ll enjoy some top notch cakes, scones and tea choices. For a full afternoon tea, choose between two different options, costing £15 or £20. Both give you the classic combination of scones, sandwiches and well-made cake. The £20 option comes with a selection of mini cakes.

Step back in time and board the train at Carriages for a delicious treat. Located just off the old A14 at Fen Drayton, about 10 miles from the city centre, this is as much about the experience as the tasty tea. After waiting in the authentically themed waiting area, you board a beautifully decorated static train and really feel like you have stepped back in time. Choose from cream tea, afternoon tea, or high tea. Carriages aim to provide the luxury rail experience of times gone by and they most certainly do. Book well in advance.

Peacocks Tearoom:

The lovely Peacocks Tearoom offer a extensive choice of tea, cakes and savoury treats from their cosy Ely tearoom. Award winning and widely recognised for their quality, they also have a range of afternoon tea experiences including a chocolate cream tea, or the Full Monty afternoon tea which is £18. Tea lovers will really enjoy the vast choice of loose leaf brews on offer here and can purchase their favourite tea to take home. Set in Ely, about 18 miles from the city centre, it’s the perfect choice for a day out. Couple your tea trip with a visit to the historic cathedral and wander the small city sights. Ely has a thriving Saturday food market fortnightly too. Be sure to visit Ely Gin and Grain Culture while you are there!
