Caravanning is a popular way of holidaying. Perhaps this is because it is flexible, close to nature, fun and a cost conscious way to have a really memorable holiday. It is also a great way to travel for a city break, with all of the peace and tranquillity of staying in countryside with the convenience of being close to the city. Here are our favourite caravan sites in Cambridge and the surrounding area.

Under 5 miles from the city centre, Great Shelford based Cambridge Camping and Caravanning Club site has all the facilities you would expect from a good quality venue. It boasts many return visits and is praised in reviews for its cleanliness. Prices start at just over £8- check the website for details. Dedicated accessible facilities are available and the site is also dog friendly.

Highfield Farm Touring Park:

Long Road, Comberton, CB237DGcamping

Premier touring park Highfield Farm has won awards for its quality and is set in a peaceful eight acres of countryside. The site has modern shower blocks and is extremely tranquil. With the beauty of the countryside, it is just a short distance to the local Park and Ride bus service which takes you into the city centre in minutes. This is a dog friendly site. Caravanning Club certified, Gayton Farm is on the edge of Cambridge with the added bonus of all of the beauty of the countryside. It offers luxury and the experience of seeing a working farm in action. The modern washroom facilities are popular with guests, as are the options for a glamping experience. You are able to book a touring pitch at this Cambridge Caravan Club site which is only a few miles from the city centre (25 mins by bus). Situated in an ancient quarry works and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), the site gives the impression of being in the heart of the countryside with the benefits of being close to attractions and facilities. Disabled access, and dog friendly too. Prices start at £16 per night.

Waterclose Meadows:

Houghton Mill, Near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, PE28 2AZ

Suitable for tents, caravans and motor homes, National Trust’s Waterclose Meadows is situated in beautiful countryside near the pretty market towns of St Ives and Huntingdon and boasts views over the Ouse Valley. It is accessible too as you can take the guided bus into Cambridge in under an hour from St Ives park and ride. Dogs are welcome here at the cost of £1.50 per night and a large pitch will cost you £16-£23 per night depending on the time of year. A lovely location.

Trelander caravan and camping site is located in a wildlife filled 5 acres of fenland. Open all year round, the beautiful countryside offers a peaceful holiday stay with the benefit of local facilities in Islelam. The village offers shops for supplies and good quality pubs for a peaceful meal. The city of Cambridge is 19 miles away.  Pitches cost £10 per night, or £15 with electric hook up.

Mad Hatters Campsite:

Mad hatters has grass pitches with electric hook up from £19 per night. The environmentally friendly pitch is in 5 acres of beautiful land boasting, a pond and an array of flora and fauna to enjoy. The site recycles 90% of all its rubbish, use 100% renewable electricity, and is a single use plastic free zone. They are also proud to be encouraging endangered bird and other animals. A great place to support.

Bounds:

9 Dogget Ln, Fulbourn, Cambridge CB21 5BT

This small, family run campsite in Fulbourn is only a few miles from the city centre.  It conveniently offers its own local facilities in the village which is only a 10 minute walk from the site. The site is set in 2 acres of flat grassland and has a communal summerhouse. Other facilities include electric hook up, fridges, picnic benches and fire pits. The site is dog friendly too. Pitches start at £15 per night.

The CL Behind Lost Acres:

Enjoy being surrounded by pig, sheep and chickens at this friendly, family run caravan site. With its smallholding of friendly livestock, the CL Behind Lost Acres is small and beautifully formed, offering easy access to Cambridge city centre or the village facilities of Cottenham itself. A really relaxing retreat for lovers of the countryside. Prices from £12 per night.
