The menus: dining table at the Chubby Castor

With a la carte, a 7-course tasting menu, set lunch and dinner, a plant-based menu, desserts, and a Sunday menu there are plenty of reasons to visit. We went for Sunday lunch recently which we found to be excellent value at just £40 for 3 courses. Here is what we had and loved.

Getting started: amuse bouche

First arrived a tasty (complimentary) amuse bouche of a bite sized onion tarte tatin. This was a lovely nibble. bread at the Chubby Castor

We then received a complimentary bread basket containing pesto bread, focaccia and seeded flatbread. Accompanied with malt and salted butters, I was delighted by the generosity of this course as a HUGE bread fan

Starters: restaurants in Peterborough

My starter was really tasty. A delicate tart filled with Jerusalem artichoke,  just the right amount of Cashel blue cheese, radicchio, onion, and courgettes. Visually beautiful. crab

Also delicate and pretty, the crab starter. Thin layers of pasta packed with tasty fresh crab. Served with a butternut and coconut velouté and caviar.

Mains: the Chubby Castor plant based main course

The plant based butternut risotto was super tasty. Packed with flavour and served with pumpkin seeds, aged Parmesan, and salsa verde. I failed to photograph the sirloin roast next to me but it was a fine example of a Sunday lunch. It arrived with chunky roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and plenty of seasonal vegetables. This must be one of the best restaurants in Peterborough for a Sunday lunch of this quality.

Desserts: pre dessert

Refreshing and light, a pre dessert of orange sorbet with an orange cake prepared us for our final course.

A chunky wedge of bread and butter pudding was comforting and rich. Served with Madagascar custard.

Finally came a rich, dark fondant, with flavours of sesame seeds, served with a tonka ice cream. I could have eaten much more of that ice cream!
